About Us

Pictured here with Angela, her husband Craig of almost 25 years, her biggest supporter and encourager.

Let me share with you a little history of myself and what has lead me to this point – I have been a seamstress for as long as I can remember, trained by my mother who was trained by hers and so on. I remember standing on the back of my mothers chair leaning over her shoulder as we sewed for my brother, sister, or myself. At the age of 7 I made my first project, a cloth purse, I could barely reach the pedal, I was so excited!

In January of 1995, having two little boys, Seth age four and Ethan age one, and with the encouragement of my husband, I decided to start a home based business. I was approached about sewing for Interior Designers. I read about Carol Phillips(she was not Embellishments Distinctive Pillows yet and who lived in New Orleans at the time) in a Houston paper who was going to be in a trade show. I told Craig, “I have got to meet her”. We exchanged information and later that year she moved back home to Houston and called me up wanting to know if I would like to be a contract sewer for her company. Although I have been independent with my own company and my own customers, Carol had given me the bulk of my work load. We always joked that our work relationship was very unusual, we were associates, mentors, and at the same time competitors in the industry.

Having been her longest tenured seamstress, she asked if I would like to take the reigns to what she had created, an incredible business I might add, and move forward as a new owner. I was so touched and moved by her offer, that after 15 years it seamed very natural for the both of us. She had been approached about a position as a corporate buyer for a leading national department store, having past experience in the corporate world, she decided to take the offer. After much though and prayer, her and I decided to switch gears in new directions, we knew God had opened new doors for us both. I have taken three of Carol’s seamstresses and along with two of my own we are now called Embellishments By Angela. Through the years I have had many young woman under my wings training and helping them learn the skill of this dying trade. One, is my daughter Grace who is learning to sew, although she seems to fancy the designing side of this trade. I still run my business out of my home so I can be there for my children, Seth being 20 and in college, Ethan age 17 in high school, and Grace age 11 in 5th Grade.

We support Lori Kaiser and her children’s storybook series.
